Using a Gua Sha tool on your face can help improve circulation, reduce puffiness, and promote a natural glow. Here’s a simple step-by-step tutorial to get the best results
Step 1 : Prepare Your Skin

Cleanse Your Face
✔ Use a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, sweat, and makeup. This prevents bacteria from spreading while using the Gua Sha.
✔ Pat dry with a clean towel – don’t rub too harshly to avoid irritation.
✔ If desired, you can apply a warm towel for a minute to open up pores and enhance absorption.

Choose the Right Facial Oil or Serum
Your choice of oil or serum depends on your skin type:
✔ Dry skin → Use rosehip oil, squalane oil, or argan oil for deep hydration.
✔ Oily/acne-prone skin → Use jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, or a lightweight serum that won’t clog pores.
✔ Sensitive skin → Use calendula oil or chamomile-infused oil to calm redness.
✔ Aging/mature skin → Use marula oil or vitamin C serum for extra nourishment and glow.
🔹 Avoid thick oils that may clog pores unless you have extremely dry skin.
How to Apply the Oil or Serum Properly
✔ Take 2-4 drops of oil (or 1-2 pumps of serum) in your palms.
✔ Rub your hands together to warm up the oil – this helps with better absorption.
✔ Gently press the oil into your skin using your fingertips or palms instead of rubbing.
✔ Focus on areas where you’ll use the Gua Sha, such as your jawline, cheeks, forehead, and neck.
✔ Wait 30 seconds to 1 minute to allow the oil or serum to settle before starting your Gua Sha massage.
Step 2 : Start Massaging
Jawline and cheek
Hold the gua sha tool at a 15-45° angle to your skin. For the jawline, start at the center of your chin and glide the curved edge outward along the jawline toward your earlobe using gentle to medium pressure. For the cheek, begin at the side of your nose and glide outward along the cheekbone toward your hairline. Repeat each motion 3-5 times per side.
Under Eyes
- Use the gentlest pressure here!
- Glide from the inner corner of your under-eye area outward towards the temple. Repeat 5-10 times on each side.
Forehead
- Start from the middle of your forehead and sweep the tool outward towards your hairline.
- Repeat 5-10 times to release tension and smooth fine lines.
Front of the Neck
- Glide from the collarbone up toward the jawline to help lift and tighten the skin.
- Use even, upward strokes, avoiding too much pressure on the throat.
- Repeat 5–10 times on each side.
Sides of the Neck (Lymphatic Drainage Focus)
- Begin at the jawline and glide down towards the collarbone.
- Use light pressure, as this area is sensitive and contains lymph nodes.
- Repeat 5–10 times on each side.
Focus on the Smile Lines
- Upward Lift: Start at the corner of the mouth and glide the tool upward along the smile line toward the cheekbone. Repeat 5–10 times per side.
- Cheek Release: Place the tool near your nose and sweep outward toward your ears to release tension in the cheeks. Do this 5–10 times.
- Mouth Corner Lift: Gently press and lift the corners of your mouth with the tool to counteract sagging. Hold for a few seconds and release.
Step 3 : Finish & Clean Your Tool
✔ Drink water to help flush out toxins.
✔ Wash your Gua Sha tool with warm soapy water and dry it properly.
Bonus Tip: Layering Skincare for Best Absorption
If you use both a serum and an oil, apply them in this order:
1️⃣ Apply the serum first (since it has smaller molecules that penetrate deeper).
2️⃣ Follow with facial oil to lock in moisture and create a smooth surface for the Gua Sha.
This step ensures your skin stays hydrated and gets the maximum benefit from both the skincare and the massage.
